MacNair’s Exploration Rum is crafted by Master Blender Billy Walker, renowned for his expertise at the legendary GlenAllachie Distillery. With over 50 years of experience in Scotch whisky, Walker brings his exceptional skills and passion to this unique rum.
Drawing on his extensive experience, Billy Walker has ventured into the world of rum with MacNair’s Exploration Rum. He scours the globe for the finest rums and brings them to the GlenAllachie Distillery, where they are matured in premium quality casks. Through this meticulous process, Billy elevates these rums to their optimum flavour potential, creating an unparalleled tasting experience.
Billy Walker's journey led him to two exceptional rum locations: Panama and Jamaica, culminating in the creation of MacNair’s Exploration Rum, featuring two distinct expressions that embody the unique characteristics of their origins.
Located in Central America, Panama's volcanic soil provides an ideal environment for growing the key ingredient in rum-making: sugar cane. This rich terroir drew Billy Walker to seek out the finest rums the country has to offer. The result is MacNair’s trio of Panamanian rums, which includes a 7-year-old, a 7-year-old Peated, and a 15-year-old expression.
Known for producing some of the most flavourful rums in the world, Jamaica was the next target. Billy sourced high, low and medium ester spirit from the island’s Clarendon Distillery. The spirit was then brought to the GlenAllachie Distillery to undergo a complex 4-step maturation in the cool climate of Scotland. The two bottlings are Jamaica Peated and Jamaica Unpeated - which has just won a Gold award at the 2024 International Wine & Spirit Competition!
