Meet the Producers | East Neuk Spirit Co. | 2024

East Neuk Spirit Co. was founded in Fife by lifelong friends Rory Hunter and David Taylor. Their mission is to spotlight spirits that reflect their East Neuk heritage, celebrating provenance while applying the same care and attention to detail that Scotland typically reserves for whisky.

Their flagship product is "Dorchadas," an Amber Spiced Rum. Inspired by the tales of smugglers' dens along their coastline, it aims to change the traditional approach to spiced rum. Instead of relying on high sugars and artificial ingredients, Dorchadas is lightly spiced to complement an already exceptionally high-quality rum.

Starting with a base rum blend of high ester Jamaican pot still molasses rum and Dominican Republic rum, Dorchadas is then infused with sea buckthorn, cocoa husks, grains of paradise, and cubeb. This blend is reduced from cask strength to 41% ABV using distilled Scottish seawater, adopting a sustainable approach. The result is a smooth, easy-drinking dram that breaks away from the traditional mould.

The founders pride their brand on the unusual and captivating magic of maturation, fascinated by how the journey of a spirit can dictate the final flavour profile just as much as the distillation process.
