Meet the Producer: Jacobite Spirits | 2021
Jacobite Spirits are incredibly excited to be taking part in the Scottish Rum Festival this year - because the event gets right to the heart of what the company is all about.
Started by a group of eight friends in 2019, Jacobite Spirits began selling to the public in March last year. The long wait has meant the team - Euan, Tony, Marcus, Ronnie, Jamie, Pat, Tony and Michael - are pure choking to meet other rum people, from producers to consumers.
Jacobite Spirits was an idea that came from friends getting together to socialise, learn things, enjoy good company and talk about shared interests… and have as much fun as possible in doing so. Of course, we’ve always enjoyed an agnostic enthusiasm for all great drinks. And the Scottish Rum Festival is an opportunity to tick every one of those boxes!
Falling in the middle of summer, the event comes at an exciting time for Jacobite Spirits, having just launched their third spiced rum, Charlie’s Chopper Clean Cut (4Cs).
The 4Cs, which is packaged in an eye-catching and revolutionary sustainable bottle, has a uniquely zesty and warm taste profile, and is peppered with exceptionally clean flavour hits. It’s something fun, easy-to-drink and highly versatile as a completely clear, spiced rum.
It joins The 45 Scottish Spiced Rum, the company’s signature brand, and Charlie’s Chopper Raspberry Cranachan Spiced Rum on the company shelf.
The 45 is strong at 45% ABV and embodies the Spirit of Rebellion, containing an unusual but delicious blend of Scottish botanicals and international spices - with hints of citrus, ginger and vanilla, and slightly smokey liquorice notes on the finish.
Charlie’s Chopper Raspberry combines the classic flavours of the Cranachan dessert – it’s fruity on the nose with strong and summery berry freshness and a subtle finish of vanilla and toasted oats. Not overly sweet, it is surprisingly tangy and refreshing with a clean, rum flavour at its heart.
Based in Polmadie, Jacobite Spirits is a homegrown, craft venture, proud of its Scottish identity and its Glasgow distillery. The team has learned the distilling process from scratch, leaning on the spirit of friendship across the Scottish craft rum scene and our distilling heritage with the Scotch Whisky industry. In fact, if you’re careful, you can even taste some of that influence with our finishing process using Bourbon-whisky casks.
Five of the founders are Scottish - from Glasgow, Dunfermline and Ayr. Of the remainder, two are from Wicklow in Ireland and other from Plymouth. But all of the team live in or close to Scotland’s biggest city.
