Meet the Producers | MacNair’s Exploration Rum | 2023

At the forefront of everything we do at MacNair’s Boutique House of Spirits is exploration. When it comes to rum, our Master Blender, Billy Walker, searches out the world’s finest and elevates them to their optimum at The GlenAllachie Distillery through blending and marrying in premium casks, assured by five decades of masterful experience. The rum is then blended and bottled in Scotland as Exploration Rum, without added colouring or chill-filtration. Always exquisitely eclectic.

First stop, Panama

Located in Central America, Panama’s volcanic soil is the ideal growing environment for the key ingredient in rum-making: sugar cane. This is what drew our Master Blender to seek out the best rum the country has to offer. After beginning its maturation journey in Panama’s tropical climate, the spirit was transferred to The GlenAllachie Distillery in Scotland to be blended by Billy Walker and then filled to the finest hand-picked oak casks. 

Next stop, Jamaica

An island renowned for producing some of the most flavourful rums in the world, we sourced high, medium and low ester spirit from Southern Jamaica’s Clarendon Distillery. This pot still rum has enjoyed full maturation in the cool Scottish climate, initially at 86% ABV and the varying ester levels for 30 months, before being blended and reduced to 69% ABV allowing for targeted flavour extraction from the wood.

Using his half-century of experience, Billy presents a unique portfolio of small-batch rums that are meticulously matured and masterfully blended.
