This brand new Bahamas inspired Scottish Rum, is a family-run company based in Glasgow, Scotland, and was brought to life in 2024 with the influence of a beautiful Island named Mamana. Its spectacular landscapes, crystal-clear waters, and the rich stories of its past captured the Aitken family’s hearts when visiting the island in the 1970s. But what truly solidified their connection to the island was how it came to be known as Rum Cay.
From Mamana to Rum Cay: The Birth of an Island’s Identity
The island, originally called Mamana, gained its iconic new name after an unforgettable event. A shipwreck occurred off the coast of the island, and the wrecks barrels of rum washed ashore. The rum quickly became a local favourite and the island’s identity was forever transformed. The story of the shipwreck, and the rum that followed became ingrained in the island’s culture, giving it a new spirit - literally.

Rum Cay Rum is inspired by their family’s remarkable life in the Bahamas during the 1970s—a defining chapter in their heritage. When their grandparents returned to Scotland, they built our family home in Glasgow, naming it Rum Cay as a tribute to that unforgettable time.
