Ninefold Distillery is the first and only rum distillery in the south of Scotland, making delicious rum from scratch in a converted cattle byre since 2019.

Located on Dormont Home Farm, which was the central historic farm at the heart of Dormot Estate, in Dumfries & Galloway. The Carruthers family have been farming and managing the estate for over 460 years, and the distillery logo – a six winged angel – is the Carruthers family Crest.

A micro-distillery with two employees, pure single rums are made here entirely from scratch by fermenting and double distilling sugar cane molasses by owner and distiller, Dr. Kit Carruthers. All rums made at Ninefold are bottled and labelled on site, for a truly artisanal brand.

The distillery’s first release in 2019 was an unaged pure single rum. ‘Pure’ meaning traditionally pot distilled, and ‘single’ meaning a single distillery. Tasting notes of banana bread, citrus, creamy. This was followed up in 2021 with Dormont Spiced, a subtly flavoured spiced rum using aniseed, nutmeg, allspice and a little sugar to complement the rum character.

Relaunching with a stunning custom bottle in August 2022, the Ninefold Distillery added a virgin oak cask aged rum to the core lineup,

Matured for at least one year in American oak standard barrels, Ninefold’s Cask Aged Pure Single Rum won a Gold medal at the International Wine and Spirit Competition in 2023.

2023 has been extremely busy for the distillery, with an exclusive 3 year old ex-bourbon aged rum for The Whisky Exchange (a first for a UK rum distiller), an exclusive spiced rum for The Craft Gin Club’s inaugural Rum Box, and a third release in the Experimental Cask series: a 3 year old ex-bourbon aged rum.

Ninefold Distillery is accelerating its casking program, and will be looking to add to its unaged rum offerings in the future too.
