Meet the Producers | Necropolis Spirits | 2023
Hailing from Glasgow, Necropolis Spirits aim to produce a range of small batch handcrafted rums and other spirits which will strengthen the growing Glaswegian distilling scene. The pride for their City and passion for their product is at the heart of every bottle.
The Necropolis, the brand’s namesake, is Glasgow's Victorian City of the Dead, a vast and grand cemetery full of ornate graves, and sculptures, that sits on a hill adjacent to the Glasgow Cathedral.
Their first release, Deid Merchant Spiced Rum, is a sweeter, spiced rum that can be enjoyed neat or over ice. Sweet like a liqueur but with all the strength and smoothness of traditional rum. The rum’s full bodied fragrant base is a mix of Jamaican, Dominican and Grenadan rums. Aberdeenshire brambleberries and Royal Deeside honey are added to the distillate to create a unique flavour profile with lime leaf and ginger bringing warm spice notes with a hint of citrus. Water from a spring in the Cairngorm mountains is added before bottling.
Deid Merchant Spiced Rum can be found in a number of bars in Glasgow city centre and the team is always looking for opportunities to showcase their product.
A young company in Scotland’s rum scene, Necropolis Spirits are aiming to leave a lasting impression at this year’s rum festival.
